Main purpose and scope
Support the delivery and management of strategy and insight programmes of work that have a substantial quantitative element, helping Crest Advisory clients to achieve impact in the justice, policing and public safety sectors.
Manage the quantitative elements of projects to ensure statistical analysis across Crest’s work is robust while delivering within the allocated resourcing for the work.
Support the Head of Analytics to develop internal data analytical capability, improve efficiency of analysis and reporting, and ensure Crest is recognised for the powerful insights it can extract from quantitative data.
Clearly communicate the findings from sophisticated analysis to internal and external stakeholders who may be less data literate, and be able to clearly and credibly answer their questions about the work.
Line manage quantitative analysts and ensure they and wider team members continue to develop analytical skills.
Support in the drafting of tenders to ensure appropriate analytical methods are proposed and accurately costed so that clients receive value for money.

Hours and location
Based at our offices at 2 Bath Place, Old Street, London for a minimum of 3 days per week.
Full-time role - 40 hours per week.
Duties and key responsibilities
Strategic delivery - Ensuring everything we do for clients is robust and provides them with the best possible information with which to take decisions.
Ensure Crest remains ahead of client and competitor capability to perform robust statistical analyses that deliver actionable insights.
Ensure the Strategy and Insight team have the support and guidance to confidently produce excellent quantitative insights.
Maintain an open and collaborative working environment where all members of staff feel comfortable seeking your advice and support in conducting quantitative analysis.
Manage client accounts and work closely with Senior Responsible Officers to lead teams in the delivery of high quality strategy and insight products, which achieve impact and enhance Crest’s reputation for excellence.
Develop new policy insights, based on rigorous quantitative analysis, which help cement Crest’s position as the country’s leading specialists on criminal justice policy.
Produce material (blogs, twitter threads, presentations) that can be publicly disseminated to demonstrate Crest's capability to derive high quality insights from data.
Design and develop proposals that are attractive to potential customers. Contribute to bid writing to ensure adequate budget is given to QA and analysis.
Help to maintain and grow a viable business unit, with annual turnover of at least three times its unit cost.
Automation and efficiency - Ensuring Crest delivers value for money for our clients by using our time as effectively as possible.
Support the Head of Analytics to deliver greater efficiency across Crest by streamlining quant analysis and visualisation, incorporating automation where practical to do so.
Ensure team members are well informed of what data is available and relevant to Crest projects.
Work with bid-writers and other project managers to ensure that methods are feasible and that necessary details of the project design are efficiently carried forward from bid to project mobilisation to ensure necessary data are captured for analysis.
Work with the Head of Analytics to automate or streamline standard reporting processes and charting so that team members can better use their time interpreting data and deriving insight from it.
Create efficient data fusion processes so that standard quantitative data, particularly public access data, can be efficiently analysed.
Work with the wider team to ensure all outputs align to the Crest brand and are clearly identifiable as our work.
Team development - Ensuring the team feel confident and are capable of delivering excellent insight from data
Ensure all Research, Strategy and Insight team members understand the range of quantitative techniques available across the organisation.
Support the wider Senior Management Team by responding to queries related to data, feasible solutions to client problems, and supporting less technical team members to understand the risk and benefits of different solutions.
Ensure team members are aware of the range of approaches they could take to answer research questions and help them build confidence is quantitative analysis.
Deliver training to staff across all capabilities to ensure team members have the support and skills necessary to perform their tasks effectively.
Manage direct reports: oversee their work, identify training/resource needs and opportunities for their development, and provide support when needed.
Quality assurance - Ensuring that all our work remains robust and credible
Project manage accounts, particularly those with a heavy quantitative focus.
Contribute to business development and tender processes to ensure analysis designs are robust, feasible, and deliverable within the time and budget constraints on the project.
Support SROs by providing quality assurance of quantitative analyses conducted on Crest projects, as well as support for project Red Groups, to maintain Crest’s reputation for credible and reliable insight.
Ensure adequate budget is provided for within bids so that all necessary quantitative support can be provided within budget.
The post-holder may be asked to complete tasks not listed above but which are within the scope of the role.

Essential requirements
Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including an understanding of statistical testing and modelling techniques that are applicable to understanding social problems.
An ability to train team members in sophisticated statistical techniques.
Outstanding communication skills, including experience of presenting to senior decision-makers and building/ maintaining relationships.
Be able to explain complex concepts, methods, and findings in a clear and easy to understand manner both in written form and face to face.
Excellent written skills, with experience of describing complex statistical analysis in a clear and concise way for an external audience (for example: senior police leaders, senior public service leaders).
The ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Supporting a close-knit team, including the ability to manage, steer and lead more junior members of staff.
Proficiency using R.
Desirable skills/experience
Previous experience working with criminal justice and policing data
Impact evaluation and cost-benefit analysis experience
A good understanding of crime, policing and criminal justice policy (including wider political context).
